E-waste is the fastest growing source of waste in north America. By 2017, the volume of discard e-products worldwide is expected to be 33% high than in 2012 and weight the equivalent of eight of the great pyramids of Egypt. E-waste is harmful. 70% of e-waste by weight is processed in the United States and sold at home or the global marketplace as commodity. Recycling 1 million cell phones can recover 50 lbs. of gold, 550 lbs. of silver, and 20,000 lbs. of copper.
