At CentricsIT, we are your IT experts, and here is what we have to say about IBM’s Power 780 Enterprise Server 9179-MHB.
2. Increased Memory
3. Intelligent Energy
How We See IT
The 9179-MHB is an innovative symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) rack-mounted server that utilizes the latest POWER7 processor technology to deliver scalability, reliability, and manageability in your large enterprise’s data center. Now available in configurations up to 96 POWER7 cores, the most recent version of the popular modular design delivers more capacity and efficiency than it ever has before. The Power 780 utilizes a special memory architecture designed to provide increased bandwidth capacity.
What sets the 9179-MHB apart from other servers is its unique ability to switch between standard throughput optimized mode and its distinctive TurboCore mode, a function where performance per core is enhanced with access to both additional clock speed and additional cache. TurboCore mode allows the processor cores to execute at a higher frequency – about 7.25% higher – and to have more accessible ( L3) cache per core. Higher frequency and more cache provide better performance. Intended for large database serving, the Power 780 provides a system designed for demanding, critical, back-end workloads. Can be used across multiple database solutions and multiple operating systems; AIX, iOS, and Linux separately or concurrently.
Increased Memory Capacity
The POWER7 DDR3 memory uses a memory architecture to deliver increased bandwidth and capacity. This feature enables you to operate at a higher data rate for large memory configurations. Every POWER7 processor can support up to eight DDR3 DIMMS running at speeds up to 1,066 MHz. A full system can contain up to 2.0 TB of memory, which can be augmented with the optional Active Memory expansion.
The 9179-MHB utilizes the IBM Systems Director Active Energy Manager with Energy Scale technology, so you can enable intelligent energy management features, resulting in conservation of power and a drastic increase in energy efficiency. The POWER7 processor is flexible in that it can be operated at a high frequency for increased performance or a reduced frequency for energy conservation.
If flexibility, efficient energy usage and an increase in memory are what your commercial workload demands, then the Power 780 Enterprise Server 9179-MHB is right for your data center.
