Space Sensitivity

If your data center requires efficient use of space, the Dell R720 fits the bill in both large and small environments. The R720 maximizes the number of virtual machines per server and offers support for the entire Xeon E5-2600 family of CPUs. With the optional dual SD memory card controller slot in the back, the machine stores a copy of the primary boot media in case of failure. The R720 can be configured in a variety of ways using internal storage features, including Express Flash PCIe technology. All these features are bundled in a small package, allowing you to take advantage of this powerful server regardless of your unique spatial constraints.

I/O Capabilities

The R720’s PCIe Gen3-capable expansion slots expand your server’s application options and offer maximum flexibility within your network fabric. The PCIe 3.0 enables GPU processing acceleration, network and power management with twice the interconnect bandwidth (8Gbps) as the previous generation. These PCIe slots allow you to take advantage of a vast array of PCIe-based products. The powerful PCIe 3.0 technology packed into the R720, combined with its customizable features, make it a perfect solution for a variety of applications.


Embedded NIC technology (referred to as Select Network Adaptors by Dell) allows you to tailor your network fabric to your application. Choose between Broadcom or Intel® technology and GbE or 10GbE without using a PCIe slot, so you can save your PCIe slots for valuable I/O technology. The R720 also employs the Dell OpenManage™ systems management portfolio, which includes the Integrated Dell Remote Access Controller (iDRAC) with Lifecycle Controller. These features allow IT Administrators to manage Dell servers without a systems manager software agent and maintain a single point of control.
