This month, we are focusing on the Cisco Error Code Router#dir disk0: %Error opening disk0:/ (No such device).

Error Code:

Router#dir disk0: %Error opening disk0:/ (No such device)

Explanation:

This error code is primarily associated with Cisco Catalyst machines that are using compact flashes. It can be attributed to an invalid DOS media or no media in slot error.

FixIT:

Format disk0: When given the prompt, “Format operation may take a while. Continue?” confirm. When given the prompt, “Format operation will destroy all data in ‘disk0:’”, confirm. If you are then presented with the error message “%Error formatting disk0: (No such device)”, there is an error with your compact flash and you will need to replace it.

Notes:

It is strongly recommended that you do not remove a compact flash memory card from the chassis while it is being accessed. You will know when flash memory is being accessed, because the CF LED light will blink. Removing and replacing the compact flash from the router while the flash memory is being accessed can cause erratic operation and data corruption.
