CentricsIT launches state-of-the-art e-commerce website
VAR500 company unleashes a groundbreaking “two sites in one”

ATLANTA, GA (8/26/11) — CentricsIT has a new online face to enhance its increasingly prestigious brand and advance its business in the online marketplace by launching a new e-commerce website. By integrating the DotNetNuke v5.x CMS with ASPDotNetStorefront, CentricsIT and its Web developers, Georgia-based firm AtlantaSky, have brought the enterprise IT community a world-class Web experience.
The newly redesigned CentricsIT.com features an artistically “techy” look and feel (the pages are reminiscent of a server rack), fluid navigation, blog, and a user-friendly storefront, which allows users to create customized “Quote Carts” filled with hardware from multiple manufacturers, third-party maintenance solutions, and IT rentals. The design uses the state-of-the-art practice of integrating DotNetNuke with ASPDotNetStorefront, utilizing the best features of each development tool to provide a seamless transition between the online store and the general information pages.
Atlanta Sky’s goal from the get go was simple—integrate an easy-to-use Content Management System (CMS) that allows flexibility for growth, search-friendly design and aesthetic appeal. It sounds simple enough, but they were met with a significant challenge.
“At the time, there were no out-of-the-box solutions for a DotNetNuke-based module that would satisfy all the needed requirements,” explained Robb Bryn, the Lead Web Developer on the project. “We either needed to write a custom set of modules or implement a separate website with e-commerce capabilities that wasn’t on DotNetNuke. There was a third option that we entertained and, after initial testing, decided upon. That was combining the DotNetNuke website with ASPDotNetStoreFront.”
According to Bryn, it’s easiest to think of CentricsIT.com as two websites in one: the main site and the store. The limitations of DotNetNuke in the e-commerce realm are mitigated with the seamless integration of ASPDotNetStorefront. Contrarily, Storefront’s rigid options for non-store pages calls for the flexibility of DotNetNuke.
“CentricsIT customers will navigate back and forth from the store to the main site without even realizing that there are two separate interfaces at play,” Bryn explained.
This modern technique in Web development falls in line with CentricsIT’s overall goals for both the site and company, noted CentricsIT President, Derek Odegard. “Our goal, first and foremost, is to provide simple, comprehensive, and innovative IT solutions to our customers,” he explained, “So it only makes sense for our website to be designed according to those same principles.”
The practice of integrating the development tools is uncommon and has piqued the interest of other DotNetNuke developers worldwide. The site will be showcased at the upcoming DotNetNuke World conference, where Bryn will be a featured speaker. The event, to be held in Orlando, Fla. on Nov. 9-11, brings together the brightest minds in Web development and offers attendees a look at the latest DotNetNuke trends and innovations.
