CA00E1F5/EA01B015

Type of Unit: IBM 8204-E4A

Situation: Trying to install AIX Operating System

Error Code: CA00E1F5/EA01B015 (Shown on Operations Panel)/(Shown through Putty)

Explanation

  • Build boot device list

Problem Determination

  • If the system or partition hangs on this checkpoint, look for a location code in the operator panel. If a location code is being displayed when the hang occurs, suspect the device at that location code.
  • If the device at that location code is good, suspect the other bootable devices that are on the same bus, such as an IDE bus.
  • If no location codes are displayed, remove all of the bootable devices in the system or partition. Add them back in one at a time, and reboot the partition after each one is added. This should isolate the device that is causing the hang; replace it.

Next, manually power down the unit. Then insert a Standalone Diagnostics Disk.

Once the unit is powered down, power on the system through Putty.

If you see the same error code on the Operations Panel, the error was not resolved via the above method.

Next, select Option 7 to list all devices.

In this case, notice that that the DVD Drive isn’t present in the listing.

So, after all the disconnect between error screens, this confirms where the miscommunication was. Manually power down the system once again.

For this fix, re-seat the DVD Drive with a known good DVD-Rom installed into the system to ensure a secure connection.

Power the system up again through Putty, insert the Standalone Diagnostics Disk, go through the same progression steps listed above and this ensures that the system boots from the drive.
